Where is it used? +
Handheld devices are convenient for staff on the vehicle to sell tickets to and validate tickets for passengers. This method can be used instead of or in addition to the driver selling tickets. In both cases, the passenger experience is streamlined and quicker, as the driver has either no or less passengers to deal with when ticketing. The Xpedition Conductor 4020 can be used on bus lines and trams.
-
How does it work? +
In order to initiate the route, the conductor places her security card near the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticket machine and after seeing her name, she enters the password. The conductor is required to choose the relevant bus route, and then she can commence selling tickets and validating smart cards. In the case of a ticket purchase, the passenger pays in cash and the conductor can choose from different passenger type tickets to issue. For example, special fares for children, seniors, students, or physically challenged, or other relevant categories can be used, depending on the policy of the transit authority. The ticket is printed and given to the passenger.
In the case of validation, the passenger places their smart travel card near the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticket machine in order to pay for the current trip. The conductor can choose special fares, such as child fare, senior citizen, student and other relevant categories. If a second passenger wishes to use the same smart travel card, he will need to wait for three (3) seconds in order to avoid double charges.
At the end of the bus route, the conductor can either use her card to set a new route, or if it is the end of a shift, the conductor closes her shift with the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticket machine.

Mass transit travel is not always consistent. There may be need for more ticket takers on certain lines at certain peak times, and on other lines at others. The Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticket machine gives your mass transit system the flexibility to go to where the travelers are.The built in communications device is an added bonus, which makes ticket issuing even easier for zone based, distance based and other fare methods that your transportation company may use. The device knows what location it is at, so that these fares are given automatically and seamlessly for the conductor.
Real time information and reports can be utilized by operations to make decisions for the field. If additional buses or ticket takers are needed on a particular line, the information garnered from these and other Transway devices and ticket machines can be used to place more conductors, inspectors, or even buses out in the field.

The data communication using cellular technology allows for the transfer of information at fixed times from the back office to the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticketing machine and back. The information includes the uses of smart travel cards, the unit’s operator details, information of new routes and updated fare rates, loading monetary value for the unit operator’s mobile wallet, software updates, lists of rejected cards, and more.Built in redundancy means that your data is safe and secure, and that you have options as to how data is transferred. The data is transferred through the cellular network, but can also be transferred by the conductor physically taking the unit to the Driver Cashier Station and using a Bluetooth connection to transfer data, which can be used as a backup.
The smart card reader of the Xpedition Conductor 4020 ticketing machine was designed so passengers can tap the validator, and in addition, the card can be inserted into a built-in slot when longer operations are being executed. This frees the conductor’s hands to perform these actions that may require using the keyboard.
The Xpedition Conductor 4020 is flexible, and can be expanded or changed to have additional functionality, such as to be used as an inspector device, or even a stationary Point of Sales ticketing machine.
The unit is built from fiber glass thick plastic and was design to withstand shocks from falls on concrete from a height 1.8 meters.
